Whether you work for a small church in rural Idaho, a mega church in Oklahoma, or an online-only campus in anywhere (because COVID) there are several things that are likely certain: you have members, and you are always looking for ways to engage them.

If those are both true, keep reading! Below are 5 reasons why Video needs to be a part of your church (or even business) marketing plan in 2021 (and beyond!).

  1. People spend oodles of time on social media.

Like, a ton. In fact, in 2020 Americans spent more than 2 hours per day (on average)1 on social media. What does this mean? People in your congregation (or your potential clients) are likely spending more time online than they are reading their Bible each day. When you’re active on social media, you’re helping your content remain at the forefront of your congregation’s mind.

2. Video engagement on social media is huge, and it is just getting bigger.

But don’t take our word for it. More than 60% of people in 2020 reported watching more video on social media than in previous years. People are more likely to engage in videos that are 1 minute or less (61%), with 52% reporting that they will watch video content between 2-5 minutes multiple times per day online.2

3. Posts with less text, and including quality photos or videos, are the most engaging.

Posts with a quality visual receive 33% more engagement than posts without. In addition, people are absolutely reading less in their news feeds and relying on visuals to tell them the story. Posts on Twitter (which is already the Cliff-Notes version of storytelling) are most likely to receive a 66% boost in engagement when the tweeter (tweetist? tweeple? twit?) uses 80 characters or less.3

What does this mean for you? Quality storytelling has to happen quickly. And you have to grab their attention. (We can totally help with that!)

4. 91% of marketers think that COVID increased the need for video in 2020 and beyond.

The heading really says it all here.4 If you aren’t using video, your competitors are. What does this mean for you? Maybe nothing. Or, it might mean you’re behind the curve like so many truly are. IF you’re experiencing a decline in conversions (getting folks in the doors, increasing tithes, or for businesses getting folks to act on your desired calls to action), we might be able to help with some neatly packaged professional video.

5. Most of all, video content helps people to understand your “why” better.

Not only do people prefer to watch video over reading lengthy articles, they know that watching a video will provide more information and they walk away feeling as though they have learned more. In fact, 96% of people report using videos to learn more about a product or service.5 Not only that, the same article goes on to say that 84% of folks were convinced to buy a product or service as a result of watching a video.

What does this mean for you and your church? Video is persuasive! As you’re hoping to reel in new members, as fishers of wo/men, one of your best tools available is…you guessed it…video.
